Mourad has been my barber for about 5 years and is by far the best . He’s definitely passionate about what he does and takes pride in his work. I just sit in the chair, and he knows exactly what I want and gets straight to it. It shows that he remembers and takes time getting to know his clients and builds a relationship. He also has started cutting my son’s hair and we’ve gotten endless compliments on how good it is . The overall shop vibe is great too. Sports are always on the tvs, and the other barbers greet you on the way in and way out

So I recently moved up here a year ago, got here in like early December of last year. I have been looking for a decent barber all year long. Me being a black person, no one really knows how to cut black hair. Going through trial & error haircut after haircut (really annoying process). I ended up stumbling across this place on, “the cut” app, an app I used to used before I got here. Ended up booking an appointment with Mourad because it looked like he did great with all hair types. Before getting the haircut he made sure it was communicated on what I wanted. We then discussed what would look the best for me and ngl it seemed like he actually cared and was going to take his time. I felt like I was in good hands the ENTIRE time like how I was back at home. Safe to say Mourad did a phenomenal job with my cut. I strongly recommend trying this place out NO MATTER your skin tone.

Mourad is my go to for my son’s hair. We’ve come a long way and his hair is finally starting to grow out as it should (he had a funny grow out for a while before Mourad)!! He takes his time and gives his full attention, which my son likes and I appreciate. Check him out - you will not be disappointed!

My initial experience at Kelso's Barber Studio was, in a word, okay. The staff certainly made a positive impression, projecting an aura of professionalism coupled with a friendly demeanor that put me at ease as I stepped into the studio for the first time.

However, the studio's unusual styling setup left me feeling somewhat disoriented and out of sync with the process. Contrary to the norm in most barber shops, customers at Kelso's are seated with their backs facing the mirrors. This unconventional arrangement meant that I was left in the dark about the progress of my haircut, an aspect which I found unsettling.

Having a real-time view of my haircut is something I value, as it allows me to provide immediate feedback to the barber. Regrettably, the lack of this feature at Kelso's resulted in an end product that fell short of my expectations. The final result was not quite how I envisioned my hair to be styled, leading to a sense of disappointment.

This outcome, in my opinion, could have been easily avoided if the seating arrangement allowed for a direct view of the mirror. This would enable a more interactive and engaging grooming experience, where the customer and stylist can collaborate to achieve the desired outcome.

In conclusion, while the staff at Kelso's Barber Studio are both professional and friendly, the studio's unique setup and its impact on the final result of my haircut left me feeling unsatisfied. I believe that some minor adjustments to the studio's setup would significantly enhance the customer experience and outcomes.

If you want a "to the skin" or " cool design" this is the place for you but if you want a Scissor cut then I suggest you go else where (the lower 48). It seems to be a thing here in Anchorage where barbers charge a ton and only do one style. They also turn you away from the mirror so you can't see what's being done It's a "cool/hip" vibe but as far as being diverse and offering a true barbering experience - it sucked. I walked away bleeding and my lines are so sharp I could give people an eye cut. Not everyone likes a FRESH dew.
