I've been going to Lou Ross for almost 10 years. Never had a bad haircut or experience. The staff are friendly, and the barbers in training really do know their stuff. Why spend 30 to $40 on a haircut when you can spend under 10 and get what you want? That's why I love Lou Ross

Me and my wife are new to the area and saw the sign out front of Lu Ross, I needed a hair cut and thought why not. I got a better men's hair cut at Lu Ross for $10 ($5 charge and I left the girl a $5 tip) than I paid over $15 (before tip) a month earlier. I realize you can get a variety of students and variable skill levels but my first experience will surely have me go back. Good job ladies!!!

Lu Ross has two schools: the barber school and the cosmetology school.

I went to the barber school. I paid two bucks for my hair cut and got a solid cut by a friendly dude.

It's gotta be said: this is a school! so if you by chance get a poor haircut, you really can't complain. That said, you probably will be satisfied with your haircut and very happy with low price.

Also, the environment is fresh. A lot of the dudes are really young and have great style. You'll hear solid hip-hop and rap (and other music perhaps) on the speakers.

I will be coming here as long as i am around Ventura.

As part of my ongoing research to find the best barber school for me, I stumbled upon Lu Ross and reached out for more information. I called in to find the details about the barber program, instead I was told how I would not be successful unless I moved closer to the school and that my commute was unrealistic. This person was discouraging me from the start instead of just giving the info I requested. I was even ready to visit school same day but I guess it would be impossible to get there with the way she described the commute. I would suggest that this school be more open to all prospective students and that no assumptions be made on their living situations. Next time try not to discourage future students who are hungry to succeed. Advisers should be neutral and not try to let their own personal bias interfere with the admissions process.

This Academy is very unprofessional, the staff is immature and are older women who are on power trips. I wish there were more reviews on this school before I entered, I will never recommend them to any person who wants a decent learning experience. There is no need to bully the students and make people feel inferior. A good academy helps a student grow and become strong in the work field. Although this school is the complete opposite, if you would like to enter high school all over again, then you found the perfect place. I understand that you may run into that anywhere, which is totally understandable. Except I will not, under no circumstanced deal with unprofessionalism with the staff as well as the students.Period. Please do your research, there are so many great schools. This is just not the one! Don't make the same mistake by choosing Lu Ross. You will thank me later.

I understand this is a school and people are still learning. I JUST EXPECT the instructor to do their “job” and overlook the process of the barber. My brother sit there like a lamb getting his hair butcher. We ask for a low fade and every time I turn around to look his fade is just keep getting higher higher. I know what the different between a low, medium, high and tight fade is. I tried to stand there to monitor the barber myself to make sure he doesn’t just go up higher, but I was not allow to stand there. My brother is not the type who complain or stand up for himself. Say whatever you want to say but he wanted a LOW FADE. There is so sign in the window saying “ this is a school you might walk out with mess up hair cut”. Hey no hate toward the barber!! Thank you for working under pressure and I understand I can be mean sometime. My only concern is UNTIL when will the instructor step in if the student can’t do the cut. One instructor ( short, black hair, Hitler mustache with a little beard going on) told me “there is no reason to get upset, if you want a real hair cut go to a real barber not a barber school and pay $5”... $5 is still hard earn money. I am a wife of a marine and my husband get a hair cut every week and I can tell you that there are PLENTY of PROFESSIONAL barber who charge $7. Just because it is a $5 haircut doesn’t give you a pass to just say whatever.. who cares. If anything since this is a school your standards should be real strict. All I ask is for the instructor TO DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING because it’s been an hour and 30 mins and the barber seem to can’t figure it out. It’s the instructor job to show the barber how to fix it not let the him keep failing. You are cutting a customer hair and there is a limit amount hair. You can’t keep messing up until he is BALD. At this point we were the only customer left and it is way pass closing time. Finally a different instructor ( glasses, dark brown hair ) step in and helped.... thanks god. I appreciate it very much. We went in before 2 Pm and walk out past 4 Pm. What I did not appreciate was the ( short, black hair, Hitler mustache with a little beard going on) instructor ti said what he said. Super unprofessional I have every right to be mad. My brother hair was getting butcher!!!!! How am I suppose to stay calm when you did not do anything to help. You should be ashamed and disgusted of yourself.

I moved to Ventura in July 2013 and started school at Lu Ross Academy in the cosmetology program in August 2013. I literally didn't know anyone here and I felt very welcomed. I leaped out of my comfort zone and into a thriving and artistic learning environment. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't learn something new from an instructor here..They educate us on the many different ways things can be done to learn what works best for our individual needs. I've learned more in the last 9 months than I ever expected to learn from a school. From the classic way of doing things to the newest trends, there isn't an instructor here that cant show you how to do something. I love it here!

I have gone to Lu Ross for years, the best place to get my hair done. All the staff are great. I'd recommend them to anyone, I have taken my daughter & my granddaughter to have their hair done there I use to to take my mom there on our weekly outings before she passed away, she loved that place.
