The perfect spot to get a great view of lake Shasta with with mount Shasta in the background. This is a quick pull off, off the side of the road. Pretty easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. I was lucky enough to catch this view with the lake being historically full, and with mount shasta covered in snow. No matter the conditions… this is the best view of the lake.

This place is amazing and easy to drive to. If you have never been here I highly suggest that you go and check it out because it is breathtaking. I went there in the morning and it was gorgeous. The second time I went it was sunset and it was even more magnificent. You can see the dam and Shasta mountain and so lake. When the sun sets the sky changes different colors and so do the mountains and it just creates a beautiful painting type look. Great place to take a date and just look at the scenery or place to park and listen to music and just think. it's become one of my new favorite places to visit and just relax after a long day. Go check it out and see for yourself, you will thank me later. I recently drove across the dam as well and it was also very beautiful and it's just a short distance from the overlook. I suggest visiting both locations around sunset for optimal viewing. Bring some binoculars if you have them. The stars are really pretty there at night as well.

There's a large pull out along the 2 lane highway, and it's well worth the time to stop and watch the sun set! As the sun sets, the rays light up MT Shasta like something otherworldly. There's well more than a 180 degree view, with a clear view of Shasta Dam, lake, mountain, as well as the surrounding mountains and valley, and the western sunset (behind a mountain). As a bonus, just around the bend in the road, down the hill, is a panoramic view of Lassen Volcano, also lit up by those last rays of sunshine. Both volcanoes were covered with snow, offering a breathtaking contrast to the evergreens and earthy colors.

This overlook is very overlooky. If you are looking for a place to look over, this overlook is for you. Bring your own beverage. The local selection isn’t great. I recommend taking a picture between the trees for some balance in your photograph. Makes it look less overlooky.

It's so beautiful here, the scenic sight is surreal. So much going on to look at... Shasta Dam, what an awesome example of human engineering. The sheer power of it is so incredible, so cool. Come see it for yourselves...it's worth the drive. We take the bike for a ride up there.
