I recently visited this teaching salon and had the pleasure of working with a student stylist who did an incredible job. She was confident, skilled, and patient—despite time running short, she never rushed and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the appointment. I have no doubt she will make a fantastic independent hairstylist.

I choose to go to teaching salons not for the discounted services, but because I believe in giving students opportunities to learn and grow. As a student in a service industry myself, I understand how valuable hands-on experience is, and I appreciate those who allowed me to practice my craft. However, I was disappointed in how this teaching salon is run and feel that the students deserve better support from their instructors and the facility’s policies. The excellent student stylist is the only reason I'm giving this salon two stars instead of one star.

For my first appointment, I arrived 15 minutes early but still had to wait another 15 minutes before being seated. After my consultation with the student stylist, we then had to wait another 15 minutes for an instructor to approve the plan. The teacher barely glanced at my inspiration picture before dismissing it, saying, "There's no way we can do all that in this appointment with only two hours left," after I had already waited nearly an hour just to begin. It was clear the instructors were stretched too thin, juggling too many students at once. Smaller student-to-teacher ratios would greatly benefit both the clients and students.

Because we couldn't complete the full service in one session, the instructor recommended I book a second appointment and insisted it be in the morning. I understood I might not get the same student, but my stylist went out of her way to rearrange her schedule and secure a morning appointment that worked for both of us within the week.

Unfortunately, when I arrived 10 minutes late for that second appointment, I was refused service. The student stylist had already been placed with another client, and no other students were available. After driving 40 minutes to the salon, I was offered a reschedule for the following afternoon—despite the previous instructor insisting I book in the morning. The inconsistency in scheduling expectations was frustrating, and now, I’m left with an incomplete color and cut.

Beyond these scheduling issues, the salon's booking system needs improvement. The terms and cancellation policies are not visible due to broken links, which creates unnecessary confusion.

Ultimately, I won’t be returning to this teaching salon. The student stylists are talented and dedicated, but the school needs to provide better instructor support, more consistency in scheduling, and clearer communication regarding policies and expectations. I truly feel for my student stylist, who was unable to complete the work she started. I hope the school improves for the sake of its students and their future clients.

I had an appointment on 1/10/2025 for a trim. When I arrived my provider was Jasmyne (she was amazing)and after a discussion and some suggestions from her she did a wash, hair mask and then a trim and style. Everything went to my liking, so at the end I decided to schedule an appointment for 2/7/2025 @ noon for additional services with Jasmyne. On the day of and only 1.5 hrs before my scheduled appointment I was contacted (while I was out already running errands)and told they would all be at lunch at that time and they could do the service at 1pm, I have other appointments to attend. Needless to say I am now meeting friends for dinner with unstyled hair since my appointments do not allow me to run back to the house to wash and style my hair. There is an opportunity for better and more timely communication.

Color, haircut, and blow dry—reasonably priced for such a wonderful experience.
I was very lucky to be assigned to a mature, knowledgeable and highly professional level 2 student, Jasmyne. She proved to be an excellent listener and apparently understood what my hair issue was—then, she proceeded to problem solve with two (2) of the instructors to make sure her choices for me would work. Beautiful outcome!! I couldn’t be happier with my results!
I am booked for a follow up appointment in 6 weeks.

I was seen by Genia yesterday for a shampoo and blow dry. She did an exceptional job blow drying my hair (it's long and thick) and I was very pleased. However, her shampoo left much to be desired. She started by wetting my entire scalp/hair followed by applying shampoo. She did very little massaging/cleaning of my scalp and none to the top third of my scalp. No shampoo was applied to that section as well. She rinsed my hair at this point and applied a second application of shampoo, again avoiding the top part of my head. I pointed out to her that I needed shampoo there as that area of my scalp shows dirt and oil the fastest. Bottom line: my scalp did not feel clean afterwards, and I would prefer that someone else services me hereafter. Thank you. P.S. She is a sweet girl and appeared to be doing her best. I didn't have the heart to correct/criticize her.

This was my first experience at Tenaj Salon Institute. I was seated on time and had a very positive experience. Yes, it took a little longer for the foils and highlighting, however the student was attentive, confident and did an amazing job. The instructor was overseeing the progress and provided feedback when necessary. Bottom line is my highlights are beautiful and the haircut is exactly what I requested.

Ashley did a great job with my highlights and haircut! Still months away from graduation she has a very firm grasp on what it takes to help a customer achieve the best look possible. I feel sassy and confident again!

My pedicure was horrible (very sloppy). I Did not get the name of the person who did it. After polishing she forgot to use lotion and asked if I wanted it. By then the pedicure was done so I said no. After the manicure I asked how long until they dry her response was I don’t know maybe 30 minutes to an hour.
