I love the positive vibe that the owner Mary has created at the Nook. Everyone is so welcoming. The salon is always clean and well stoked with all the different Aveda products. There’s even a tray of yummy complimentary cookies to enjoy! The location has lots of convenient parking and is located across from Whole Foods midtown and walking distance to cute shops and place to eat.

Wendy is the absolute best for both color and cut. I have thick wavy hair and her cut compliments my hair wonderfully. Color? She rocks!! Would definitely recommend!

As a fat, queer, Puerto Rican woman with multiple years of bad haircuts behind me, I highly recommend The Nook to anyone and everyone! When you walk in, you feel welcomed, seen, and invited, no matter how you present or dress. The lounge space is cute, often including a tray of cookies and a collection of magazines. The stylists are sweet and funny, and I just learned they do facials! Now, for my curly/wavy hair girls, especially for those of us with hair that has multiple textures and porosities on our heads, go to Wendy Frye. When I first worked with her she spent half the time actually physically feeling the weight of my hair, picking out the different textures, and getting to know my hair goals and my priorities. And when she started actually working I felt comfortable, heard, and I learned new things about my hair needs. She is the only stylist I have ever gone to where I leave with my hair happier, healthier, and curlier than when I came in. Personally, she is also great to talk to. I take a while to open up to people, but she is warm and kind and funny. And she makes great product recommendations! Finally, just wanted to add a recommendation from my they/them autistic wife; they love Wendy. My wife has very different hair, and very different personality, than me, yet we both adore her. Even after moving to San Jose we both still take the time to go to The Nook and work with Wendy because there is nowhere and no one better.

I love the Nook! As a queer person I was having problems finding a place that is reasonably priced, nearby, listens to ‘no I really do want every color under the sun’, and knows Asian hair. I was told about the Nook when I was lamenting the fact that I was looking for an inclusive spot that fit the bill. I called and was matched with Myra. She is absolutely amazing. In addition to being amazing at styling, cutting (and a host in general), she was the first where the bleach didn’t end up giving me a dry scalp for a few days. Months later (need to go back soon!) I am still getting compliments on the color (I don’t mean 2 months, I mean I have been lazy and haven’t been in 6+ months)

Myra did a great job cutting my hair! She was super attentive, kind and did not stop until I was 100% satisfied with my cut. I went from shoulder length to a pixie cut a couple weeks ago and I am still in love with my hair every single day! Thank you so much Myra- I’ll be back!!

It was my second time that I cut my hair at this lovely salon. I like Maria who is professional in her job especially for cutting hair based on my experience. The price is a little expensive though. They are friendly as well.

Aisha is amazing. Best haircut I've gotten in Santa Cruz, and she really picked up on what I wanted and had great advice for managing my haircut at home--and she's just a really rad person.

Prices are reasonable, salon is lovely and has some beautiful art and good vibes.

If you ever need a last minute appointment and a great haircut, this is the place! Myra, was flexible with scheduling an appointment last minute. The service at the beginning and during the appointment was reassuring, Myra, asked the right questions and listened to every request I’ve had. My haircut is just how I imagined it, Myra, was able to materialize it just perfectly! I’d be going back to her!
